Water in the World
Water in the World
Embark on an outdoor adventure where a scavenger hunt meets an escape room in the natural environment!
Guided by our instructors, students navigate a local topographic map, applying geographical skills like reading legends, using area/grid references, measuring distances and determining directions to uncover hidden testing sites.
At each location, students conduct water quality testing using geographical equipment to analyse pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity and nutrient levels. As they compare data from disturbed and undisturbed waterways, they will investigate how urbanisation, pollution and human land use impact freshwater ecosystems.
Students will solve puzzles and decode clues to open various types of locks and progress through each stage of their mission - working to protect and restore our waterways. Will they piece together the evidence, unlock the final challenge and save our water before time runs out?
This adventurous fieldwork excursion provides valuable insights into the health of aquatic ecosystems, while developing practical skills in data collection and analysis. Students will learn how to interpret their findings, understand the broader impacts of water quality on the environment and use critical thinking to assess sustainable water management practices.
Join us for an exciting eco-adventure where students dive into local waterways to examine the condition of water and where Geography meets strategy!

GE4-1 - locates and describes the diverse features and characteristics of a range of places and environments
GE4-2 - describes processes and influences that form and transform places and environments
GE4-3 - explains how interactions and connections between people, places and environments result in change
GE4-5 - discusses management of places and environments for their sustainability
GE4-7 - acquires and processes geographical information by selecting and using geographical tools for inquiry
GE4-8 - communicates geographical information to a range of audiences using a variety of strategies
Students will complete the following activities at various waterways (including disturbed water sources in close proximity to human activity and at location that are comparatively undisturbed), giving students the ability to compare and contrast human impacts on water.
